She obtained her Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies at Oregon Health and Science University. She had worked in addiction medicine for a year, helping patients detox and maintain sobriety from alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepine, and methamphetamines. She was born in Malaysia and grew up in southern California before joining the Air Force. She was a dental technician in the Medical Group of the US Air Force for 6 years in Alaska and Arizona and an additional 8 years at the Oregon Air National Guard.
